Uncertainties in Systematics of Flying Squirrels (Pteromyini, Rodentia): Implications from a New Record from Vietnam
نویسندگان
چکیده
Taxonomic status of gliding squirrels belonging to the “northern” form Petinomys setosus known from N. Burma and Thailand has been controversial. Earlier it was assigned a distinct genus Olisthomys, however, currently is synonymized with P. s. str. Sumatra Borneo Islands, Malay Peninsula. A squirrel collected in Song Hinh forest (Phu Yen Province, south central Vietnam) examined genetically using sequence data on three mitochondrial genes (cytb, 12S, 16S) one nuclear (IRBP) gene. The molecular results demonstrated that this significantly divergent other specimens belongs separate genetic lineage within Glaucomyina clade. obtained phylogenetic pattern supports recognition Olisthomys as valid genus; confirm conclusion comprehensive taxonomic revision related genera required. reconsideration position also raises question conservation taxon.
